Democratic Manhattan-Queens Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney said Wednesday she is very interested in replacing Hillary Clinton as senator.

Appearing on "Inside City Hall," Maloney talked up her credentials as a longtime Washington lawmaker.

"I've had well over 23 years as a legislator. Of those that are on the list, I am rated as having a great deal of clout in my position by an independent rater. I've passed many important bills that help New York City and State."

Monday, President-elect Obama nominated Clinton to be Secretary of State.

Should the senate confirm Clinton's appointment next year, as expected, it will be up to Governor Paterson to pick Clinton's replacement.

Paterson has said he will wait to make his choice known until after the Senate signs off on Clinton's appointment.

Besides Maloney, others thought to be on Paterson's senate short list include state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, and Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
