Manhattan Congressman Charles Rangel may be in hot water again over taxes – this time involving a house in Washington.

The New York Post says Rangel took a so-called "homestead" tax break on the house for years, while occupying several rent-stabilized apartments in New York at the same time.

New York City law requires tenants use rent-stabilized apartments as their primary residence.

And under Washington D.C. law, properties getting a tax break must be listed as a person's primary residence as well.

Rangel's office would not say whether he received the exemption. But if it turns out he did misuse the tax break, he could be forced to pay back taxes, interest, and penalties.

Earlier this year, Rangel was forced to give up a rent-stabilized apartment in Harlem that he was using as an office.

He later admitted he didn't report income on the rental of a beach-front villa he owns in the Dominican Republic.
