As temperatures drop, the city takes steps to make sure New Yorkers get the heating oil they are paying for.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that every heating oil delivery truck in the city now faces strict standards and surprise inspections to stop homeowners from being overcharged.
The Department of Consumer Affairs is inspecting trucks across the five boroughs to makes sure their meters accurately measure how much oil they pump.
"Our administration is committed to doing everything possible to help New Yorkers through these tough times, especially when it comes to things we care about the most, and need the most," said the mayor. "And while we may not have control over the price of heating oil, we can make sure that New Yorkers are getting every drop that they pay for."
So far, the DCA has taken more than 60 trucks off the road because they failed to meet the new standards.
