State Takes Steps To Reduce Hunts Point Stench
The state began taking steps Wednesday to reduce foul odors coming from a Bronx sewage plant.
State environmental officials say the New York Organic Fertilizer company must install an air-pressure alarm to keep odors from escaping.
Hunts Point residents sued the company and a city-run sewage facility back in July – complaining the stench had made them physically ill.
The residents' lawyer says legal action will continue until the facilities agree to, "binding legal commitments to eliminate all nuisance odors."
The company transforms city sewage into fertilizer pellets; it has not returned calls for comment.
