The House Ethics Committee Wednesday officially opened its investigation into Manhattan Congressman Charles Rangel at his own request.
In a statement, Rangel said he welcomes the review, which he himself called for after several published reports focused on his finances.
Last month, Rangel admitted to owing thousands of dollars in back taxes on a property he owns in the Dominican Republic.
He also relinquished one of the three rent-stabilized apartments he occupies in Harlem because it was being used as a campaign office.
