Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson both showed their strongest interest yet about changing the term limits law Tuesday.

Bloomberg said he's open to the extension, which could allow dozens of elected officials, including him, to run for another term.

"If this bill were to end term limits I would certainly veto it,” said Bloomberg. “If the bill were to change term limits from two to three, I've got to think long and hard about it."

Meanwhile, Paterson said he's in favor of the extension, because he says two terms are not enough for an official to be in office.

"I don't know that eight years gives a legislator on any level a real opportunity to serve their community,” said Paterson. “It takes a little while to learn the operation of government, there are campaigns that interfere during that particular time. I would not mind seeing term limits extended."

Bronx Councilman Oliver Koppell said last week he plans to introduce a bill that would extend term limits to three terms.
