A new push is underway to extend some commuter tax breaks that benefit more than 500,000 mass transit riders.
Set to expire on December 31, Senator Charles Schumer wants them to be made part of the permanent tax code.
Currently, a commuter is covered up to $230 of their gross income per month to pay for mass transit.
If the break expires, $100 of that benefit could be slashed.
Schumer says commuters saved over $200 million last year because of tax breaks.
