Governor David Paterson is looking to Washington to help pay for the damage from the tornados that hit two weeks ago.

Paterson is asking President Barack Obama to issue a major disaster declaration for the city and provide federal funding.

The governor wants the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help cover the costs of response efforts, cleanup and repairs to public property.

The governor is also asking for rental assistance, low-interest loans and disaster housing for homeowners, renters and businesses in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

FEMA officials have toured several parts of the city, but are still working to determine if they are disaster areas.
