House Republicans failed a third time to oust Manhattan Representative Charles Rangel from his post as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday.
The Republican resolution called to remove Rangel from the tax-writing committee in the midst of an ethics investigation into his financial and fundraising activities that has been going on for more than a year.
In a mostly partisan vote, the Democratic-led House voted to shut off debate and refer the bill to the ethics panel.
Rangel, who is is being investigated for errors in his tax filings, says the mistakes weren't intentional.
