Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. teamed up Monday to try and put an end to abuse in teen relationships.

While at Middle School 331 in Morris Heights, they launched a program called "Start Strong Bronx."

The goal is to promote healthy relationships among young people in the city and educate them on how to recognize abusive ones.

"This grant right here goes a long way so that families that don't have the best communications at home or sometimes when young people don't have the best relationship at home and going to their parents. Sometimes my boys don't feel comfortable coming to me, that we have the outlet, we have the ability, to promote better relationships," said Diaz Jr.

"We want our young people in our city to start strong and stay strong in mind, body and spirit, and that has to include healthy relationships and avoiding abusive and destructive ones," said Bloomberg.

The program received a $1 million grant from a national program.
