Former New School President Bob Kerrey could be close to running for his old seat in the U.S. Senate.
The former Nebraska Democrat said he is seriously considering running for the office he left in 2001 after two terms.
The seat is expected to be key in the Democratic fight to hold on to control of the Senate.
Following his time in Washington, Kerrey served for 10 years as president of The New School.
Credited with expanding the university's profile and raising money, he was criticized by some students and staff members, who felt he led the school away from its progressive roots.
