Federal prosecutors have recommended eight years in prison for former State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, who is scheduled to be sentenced next month on corruption charges.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Albany filed court papers late Friday.
Bruno's attorney is calling for no more than six months in prison for his client.
The former state senator was one of New York's most powerful elected officials for more than 13 years. He abruptly resigned two years ago as an FBI investigation into his private business dealings got underway.
