After days of deliberation by a federal jury upstate, former State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno was found guilty Monday on two counts of corruption.

The 80-year-old Republican from Rensselaer County faced eight charges, including mail and wire fraud.

The two guilty verdicts stem from his dealings with an Albany area businessman and his failure to disclose a partnership with him.

Jurors in Albany cleared him of five other counts, but couldn't decide on the eighth.

"Goes without saying that I am very, very disappointed in the verdict that I just heard. And, the legal process is going to continue. And, in my mind and in my heart it is not over until it's over. And I think it's far from over," Bruno said while speaking to reporters outside the courtroom.

Prosecutors accused the one time lawmaker of using his position to steer contracts and grants to businesses that paid him at least $3 million.

A sentencing date has been set for March 31st.

He faces up to 40 years behind bars.
