Fewer city schools have made the state's list of those needing improvement.

A total of 401 schools are on the list this year, that's down from 432 last year.

The state says 34 schools were added to the list this year, while 48 schools were dropped from the list, including Landmark High School in Manhattan.

"It shows that we're actually improving academically and we're doing our work and we're just not slacking and doing nothing in school," said Ingrid Diaz, a student at Landmark High.

"They're not in school with us so they're just judging us on test scores. What I feel they should do is they should come put themselves in a child's point of view," said Stephanie Clemente, a student at School for the Physical City.

In all, 543 schools across the state made the list.

The findings are required under the No Child Left Behind Act.
