NY1 News was one of a handful of media organizations that filed a Freedom of Information Law request with the Department of Education in September 2010 for the city's teacher rating reports, which have been used internally by the DOE as a tool to decide tenure.

The newschannel does not pass judgment on the accuracy or efficacy of these ratings, but the reports were requested under the belief that parents have a right to the information. NY1 is presenting the data in raw, unedited form, as well as in a simplified format with plain-English explanations of the rating categories. The newschannel is also providing in-depth coverage to put the information in context for our viewers and readers.

In addition, NY1 is providing a means for teachers to respond with comments about the rating process, by e-mailing teachers@ny1.com.

The data in the raw reports is presented here without editing and in its entirety, minus the teacher identification numbers, so readers can evaluate for themselves the ratings contained in the reports and the DOE's methodology that underlies those ratings.

The city stopped creating these reports after the 2009-2010 school year, as New York State will be creating them going forward with the data counting for 20 percent of a teacher's overall evaluation under the new system.
