The United Federation of Teachers has released a new TV ad that criticizes politicians for what it says is an offensive against educators.
UFT officials say the 30-second spot is meant to showcase the hard work of the city's teachers, with one teacher saying students' success helps the whole city. Others say they love their jobs.
It comes as the fight continues over teacher evaluations as well as the Panel for Educational Policy’s vote to shut down 18 schools entirely, with five schools losing their middle schools.
The commercial will air on broadcast stations and cable networks in the New York area, including on NY1.
NY1 has reached out to the city's Department of Education for comment.
