The city's career and technical education high schools are falling behind in preparing students for what lies ahead, according to a new report by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
De Blasio analyzed 20 of the city's CTE high schools and the programs they offer.
He found those schools are much more likely to appear on the state's list of low achieving schools than their general education counterparts.
The report also found many programs offered at CTE schools don't prepare students for high-wage, high-skill jobs.
De Blasio has outlined several potential solutions, including new internship programs, partnering more successful programs with the poorest performing ones and creating a public/private scholarship fund to finance students' industry certification.
