As a school bus strike by drivers threatens Monday morning, the city is seeking an injunction with the National Labor Relations Board to put the brakes on it.
If the drivers were to strike, city officials say schools will stay open, and MetroCards will be handed out to students who normally ride a school bus.
For special needs children who require transportation from home, parents will be reimbursed for gas mileage or the cost of a car service.
The strike threat came after the city asked for bids for bus driver service for pre-kindergarten special education students.
Drivers want a provision requiring jobs for the most senior drivers, regardless of which company wins the bid.
A 2008 court ruling prevents the city from favoring the most senior drivers in contracts, however.
The drivers union said a strike is likely but not “imminent,” a word Mayor Michael Bloomberg did use to describe the threat at a news conference yesterday.
