A report released Friday by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio shows the bus ride to and from school is becoming an increasingly frustrating ordeal for city school kids and their parents.

De Blasio says some students are forced to put up with incredibly long commutes and little accountability on the part of the bus companies.

The report finds that while the Department of Education has increased its budget for buses by $150 million over the past four years, the quality of service continues to decline.

DeBlasio says there's no incentive for bus companies to provide reliable service because they are not required to re-bid their contracts.

He recommends the city put the contracts up for competitive bidding and establish "baselines" to ensure only the best-performing companies get hired.
