Layoffs are back on the table for more than 700 school workers.
DC 37 had tried to save the jobs by offering a cost-cutting proposal to the Department of Education, but talks broke down.
In total, 737 employees could be out of job as early as next week in an effort to save $35 million.
Union representatives accuse the DOE of refusing to continue the discussions, claiming some principals who were supposed to make the cuts were never consulted.
Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said he's sympathetic to the workers who may lose their jobs, adding in a statement that more budget constraints could be down the line.
