Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott launched Wednesday a new volunteer tutoring program at seven city schools.
Speaking at P.S. 188 on the Lower East Side, Walcott said the Reading Partners program will pair New Yorkers with school children to help improve the students' reading skills.
"I've talked about the importance of literacy and having a program to reinforce that I think is extremely important," the chancellor said. "And especially when we're talking about non-fiction texts and first graders and elementary school students, but they're also in middle schools as well."
