Five New York City schools are receiving accolades for academic achievement.
The Beacon School of Excellence in Brooklyn, PS 48 on Staten Island, and PS 130, PS 159 and PS 173 in Queens have all been named National Blue Ribbon Schools.
The number is up from last year when only two schools made the list.
The Department of Educations' National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools with high performing students.
This year, 304 schools across the country will be recognized.
The schools will be honored at an awards ceremony in November in Washington DC.
