The principal of an elite Lower East Side public school has been removed.

Ling Ling Chou was reassigned to administrative duties while the city conducts at least nine separate investigations into the Shuang Wen school's administration and parent leaders.

The school has been in turmoil over allegations of charging for required Mandarin classes and several other issues.

There have been angry parent meetings and threats against the principal, who has been at the school since it was founded 12 years ago.

However, some parents who support the principal say the Department of Education is targeting the school because of its Chinese heritage.

They are suing the department to stop the investigations.

DOE officials say the department found an accomplished administrator with extensive experience in city schools to step in on an interim basis.

That person's name is not being released yet.

Officials say summer school will go on as scheduled.
