Today is the first official day on the job for new Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott.
The former deputy mayor hit the ground running as soon as he was appointed.
He has spent time in schools throughout the city, meeting with parents, students and teachers.
Walcott also visited Albany to thank lawmakers sending more money to the Department of Education.
The new chancellor takes over for Cathie Black, who resigned earlier this month after a tumultuous three-month stint.
