New Yorkers opposed to Governor Andrew Cuomo's proposed education cuts took their fight to Albany this weekend.
City Council Education Chairman Robert Jackson led a march to the governor's mansion on Saturday.
He says a planned eight-percent cut to education funding would be devastating, and the funds can be found elsewhere.
"Let the personal income tax surcharge, which is in existence now for wealthier New Yorkers, we're asking for an extension," said Jackson. "For every year that is extended, it will automatically bring in about $5 billion, and that will save all of the cuts to education."
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced plans to lay off some 4,600 teachers citing slashed funding from Albany and Washington.
