Chancellors for New York's public universities are looking to Albany lawmakers to help them stay afloat.
Administrators for the State University of New York are concerned over the deep budget cuts they face. They, along with the City University of New York, are looking for moderate increases in tuition.
Both SUNY and CUNY officials are also petitioning for the authority to enter into lucrative partnerships with the private sector.
Governor Andrew Cuomo's budget is calling for 10 percent cuts across the board.
The cuts would also effect both the state's and city's teaching hospitals and community colleges.
