The number of complaints filed against the Department of Education is on the rise.
According to a report issued by the Special Commissioner of Investigation, 3,336 complaints were received by his office in 2010.
That is an 11-percent increase from the previous year, and the highest in the history of the agency.
Of those complaints, 586 involved an allegations of sexual misconduct.
The received complaints resulted in the opening of 778 investigations -- a new high and a 15-percent increase from the 679 investigations in 2009.
The SCI completed 791 investigations in 2010, and substantiated 306 of them, or 39 percent.
Of the substantiated cases, 110 went to prosecutors, which led to the arrest of 11 individuals or corporations.
SCI recommended 126 individuals be fired, and 189 should be made ineligible for future employment with the DOE.
