Students and teachers at the Rosa Parks School in Queens and P.S. 335 in Brooklyn are celebrating a special achievement.
The U.S. Department of Education named both schools as 2010 "Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence."
The award honors high achieving schools or schools that have shown the most progress in their states.
"We are ecstatic, we are happy, we are proud. What else could I say?" said P.S. 254 Principal Naomi Drouillard. "We are about the happiest people that could ever be. We worked hard for this."
"We have the best students and the best teachers that help us. We have good education and we work as a team," said James Morales, a fifth grader at P.S. 254.
"Rosa Parks Elementary is a model for schools all around the country," said U.S. Education Department Assistant Secretary John McGrath. "This school shows what can be done and what excellence really looks like. The hard work, the courage, the love they show their kids, the commitment and the vision they have, that's a model for the rest of the country to follow."
The two schools were the only elementary schools in the city to receive the honor.
