Incoming Schools Chancellor Cathie Black continued her tour of city schools Wednesday as she prepares to take the helm next month.
Black toured Medgar Evers College Preparatory School in Brooklyn, talking with parents, teachers, and students and attending classes in Chinese and Biology.
Black says Medgar Evers' rigorous academics could be a model for other schools.
"One of the things that is one of our major reform platforms is to prepare our students for a very different world, strengthening the curriculum, so that the critical reading and writing and analytical skills are developed at a very young age," said Black.
Asked about Black's visit, Medgar Evers' principal said the city seems to be focused more on things like test preparation rather than developing all aspects of a student.
Black says one of her next steps is more meetings with parents, and hearing what's on the minds of principals and teachers.
She says she's been trying to get a geographic representation of the city by visiting schools in all five boroughs.
