Police responded to two separate calls Monday at Murry Bergtraum High School in Manhattan. This, after a student uprising brought classes to a halt last week.

Officers say two students got into a fight around 11:40 a.m.

One student received cuts and bruises and was taken to the hospital.

Francois Cousins, 18, is charged with misdemeanor assault.

Less than 30 minutes later, police were called back.

They say a 17-year-old threw a metal trash can at a school safety agent while being scanned.

The agent was taken to the hospital.

The 17-year-old was charged with felony assault.

These incidents come after a big student disturbance last week.

Hundreds of students walked out of class Thursday after the school's principal said bathroom passes should not be given out, because of an earlier fight.

Students who spoke with NY1 say they're not worried about the violence.

"It's just a drama school. Like, there's gonna be fights. There's fights in every high school," said one student.

"This school is really, really safe other than that. There's security everywhere," said another. "The teachers really do care; they're not going to let anything bad happen to them to the extent that they can."

In a statement, United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said, "In addition to increased security, the DOE needs to take immediate steps to restore an educational climate at Murry Bergtraum. Programs like peer mediation and conflict resolution which have all but disappeared across city schools, can go a long way toward preventing situations like those that have occurred recently at Murry Bergtraum."
