The city is appealing a judge's ruling that it must provide bus service to middle school students on Staten Island and in parts of Queens.
Parents sued to restore the service, which was eliminated to save money. They say forcing kids to find their own way to school is a safety issue – especially in areas where there are few transit options.
The city is holding off on restoring the service pending its appeal.
It a statement, the city Law Department said, “In determining that these students must be provided yellow bus transportation, while 7th and 8th graders throughout the rest of the City are not, the Court ignored both the law, the record and equity."
