The city Department of Education says it is on track to clear out the backlog of teachers currently under investigation.

In April, when the city and teachers union agreed to close the temporary reassignment centers known as “rubber rooms," they said they would clear up the logjam of teachers accused of wrongdoing by December 31.

The city resolved 500 of those cases, but DOE officials are not saying yet how many of those educators were returned to the classroom and how many were dismissed.

There are about 200 educators left from the original group of 700.
