Parents held a meeting in support of P.S. 114 in Canarsie, Brooklyn on Friday, and said the city did not do enough to help the school recover from a corrupt former principal.
The Department of Education gave the school a "D" on its most recent progress report card and DOE officials are looking into either phase out P.S. 114 or replace it with other schools.
Parents said the school is hurting from a lack of resources and poor management.
They said the problems stem from former Principal Maria Penaherrera, who was removed by the DOE and is being investigated for financial mismanagement of the school's resources.
"The teachers that are here they care about our kids, they love our children. I've been here three years. They love the children," said a parent. "It's just the administration. I think the administration honestly needs to be changed."
"These are our future doctors, our teachers, they are our future firefighters, cops, and we need to make sure there's consistency 100 percent," said another.
"We parents are going to out head together, and we're going to work and we're going to fight for that school to keep it open," said a third.
A DOE spokesperson said the department is meeting with struggling schools to hear from them and find out how best to help the students.
