Some parents in Queens want to know why it took nearly four hours for their children to arrive home by school bus on Monday.
Afrodesia McCannon of Jackson Heights told NY1 she tried to find out Monday the location of the bus carrying her seven-year-old daughter Shulamith, seen above, but to no avail.
She said the Amboy Bus Company usually drops her daughter off from P.S. 499 by 3:45 p.m., but on Monday her daughter did not show up until 7 p.m.
McCannon said she was told the driver was new, got lost and did not know where to go.
"It would be one thing if I'd known where she was and if there was a serious problem, and I could have had some sort of sense of empowerment. But not to know where my kid was for four hours," said Cannon.
John Greiner's son and daughter were also on the bus, and now all the parents are looking for answers.
"We have to sign a code of conduct for our five-year-olds on the school bus, and yet there's no code of conduct for the school, the bus company, for the DOE. That they have no obligation to contact us to me is outrageous," said Greiner.
Parents of the delayed children said if the driver was new, he should have made a dry run of the route before picking up the children.
The Department of Education says that it is investigating the situation and that the driver has been suspended. Amboy Bus Company has yet to comment on the incident.
