The Archdiocese of New York has come out with a three-year strategic plan for rescuing the beleaguered Catholic school system.
For the first time, schools will be organized into separate regions, each with a governing board.
Within each region, schools may be closed or merged, based on enrollment and finances.
Officials wouldn’t comment on how many schools may be shuttered as a result of the reorganization but say they will begin to take action this year.
Archbishop Timothy Dolan says the plan is "daring yet practical."
