A Bronx playground designed by local kids is officially open.
Last year, students at PS 7 in Kingsbridge were given the chance to create a unique play space by surveying classmates and parents to see what everyone would like to see in the yard.
This year they are enjoying the results.
The playground features student-designed murals, a rock climbing wall and a turf playing field as well as new equipment, gardens and an outdoor classroom.
"It's such a treasure to have in the community, it absolutely means an opportunity for our children and families to be able to enjoy the outdoors, to have a place where they can come and play and where parents can feel that their children are safe," said Community School District Superintendent Sonya Menendez.
The project was a partnership between the non-profit organization the Trust for Public Land and the city's PlaNYC initiative.
The playground is open to the public after school and on weekends.
