The city appears to be clearing up the logjam of teachers left in the Department of Education's so-called "rubber rooms."
The issue has been a bone of contention between City Hall and the United Federation of Teachers, since hundreds of teachers were being paid literally to do nothing, but sit in a room while disciplinary cases were being resolved.
The city and the UFT agreed in April to close the rubber rooms. By June, there were 700 teachers awaiting reassignment.
That number is now down to 443.
Teachers will begin administrative assignments in central offices beginning Monday.
Sources tell NY1, some will be reporting to work in the DOE's press office, Human Resources division, and legal department.
