A panel that helps oversee city schools put off a vote Monday that could strip it of some of its own power.

The panel is responsible for reviewing city-approved contracts for the Department of Education.

Members were set to vote on a resolution Monday that would eliminate that process, giving the DOE more freedom in its use of the contracts.

The panel met at a school in Chinatown, but pulled the proposal from the agenda at the last minute.

The DOE says members wanted more time to understand and discuss the measure.

Elected officials have criticized the resolution saying the panel is supposed to provide oversight and transparency to the contract process.

There's no word on whether this resolution will be back on the agenda next month.
