The New York State Education Department is working to set higher standards for students, following a new report on its math and reading exams.
A Harvard University study released Monday found New York's standardized tests are too easy.
The DOE commissioned the investigation.
Among other issues, the results show many high school students who pass the Regents exams are still not ready for college. The findings also conclude tests for third through eighth graders are not good proficiency indicators.
The DOE says it’s taking new measures to improve the education system. Those include making exams more difficult, so that "proficient" scores will mean students are on track to perform college-level work.
