While violent crimes are on the rise on city streets, they're on the decline in city schools.
The Department of Education says violent crime dropped by 5.7 percent during the 2009-2010 school year.
Overall, crime dropped more than seven percent.
DOE officials say the improvement is due to the increased number of school safety officers.
