An upper Manhattan public school has received high marks for its ongoing commitment to teaching emergency preparedness.
P.S./I.S. 18 was named the "Ready School of the Year," as part of a program put together by the city's Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Education.
The initiative, which was launched in all five boroughs in September, stresses the importance of making an emergency plan and practicing it, including the preparation of a "stay at home kit" with food, water and a battery-operated radio.
It also urges New Yorkers to have a "go bag," packed and ready with emergency supplies.
