About 700 city students in six city schools will receive seasonal flu vaccines next week as part of a trial run by the city Departments of Education and Health.

All students receiving the shots between Monday and Friday must have consent forms completed by their parents.

School and health officials hope to verify the most efficient ways to immunize large numbers of schoolchildren.

The six participating schools are:
• P.S. 046, Edgar Allan Poe in the Bronx
• P.S. 040, George Washington Carver in Brooklyn
• Saint Mark School in Brooklyn
• The Children’s Workshop School in Manhattan
• P.S. 136, Roy Wilkins in Queens
• P.S. 35, The Clove Valley School in Staten Island

Within the next few weeks, parents will receive consent forms for the actual H1N1 school vaccination effort, which will start later this month or early November and last eight weeks.

In addition, officials will hold weekend vaccine clinics for middle school and high school students in all five boroughs during November and December.

Both H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines will be free.

The city will receive 68,000 doses of the nasal H1N1 mist next week.

The nasal H1N1 vaccine is only recommended for healthy people between the ages of two to 49 years old. Children younger than two need a separate H1N1 vaccine.

Children between the ages of six months and 18 years also need to be vaccinated against seasonal flu.
