With only a week left until the law giving the mayor control of the public schools is set to expire, a new poll shows more than half of the city's registered voters favor the measure.
A Quinnipiac University poll found that 61 percent of those surveyed say the state Legislature should renew the law that gives the mayor control of the public schools, while 32 percent disagree and 8 percent are not sure.
The poll also found that 53 percent say the mayor should share control of public schools with the City Council, while 39 percent disagree and 7 percent are not sure.
The poll surveyed nearly 2,500 registered voters from June 16-21 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
