The police officers who patrol the subways are getting some new two-way radios, making it easier to communicate below and above ground.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the walkie-talkies will replace the current radio system, which limits cops from being able to contact anyone off the platform.
A total of 2,700 Motorola dual-band radios are being purchased with money coming from an $8.6 million federal grant.
The new radios come years after the NYPD and MTA spent $160 million on a communication system that was later deemed inefficient by city administrators.
