Asian and Latino community groups are fighting to make sure changing demographics are reflected in next year's City Council.
The groups announced a partnership with Common Cause NY in Sunset Park, where Asian and Latino populations are soaring.
Common Cause and the public will help the city redraw district lines, a process that happens every 10 years and helps define community borders.
Activists said it means much more than electing an Asian or Latino official.
"It really helps us as a city as a whole that we have everybody represented and at the table," said Christopher Kui of Asian Americans for Equality.
"It's about making sure the city agencies and city state and federal government responds to the population and our needs," said David Galarza of La Casita Comunal de Sunset Park.
The New York City Districting Commission will hold public hearings in each of the five boroughs from August 13 to August 23.
