The trial began Tuesday for George Villanueva, the man accused of shoving a police officer to his death last year in Brooklyn.

Villanueva, who pleaded pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder, also faces several counts for domestic violence.

Police Officer Alain Schaberger was responding to a domestic violence call in Boerum Hill in March 2011, when police say Villanueva resisted arrest and pushed the officer over a railing.

Schaberger fell nine feet to his death.

The defense claims eyewitnesses saw Schaberger's fellow officer accidentally knock him over.

Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch called it despicable for the defense attorney to blame a policeman for the officer's death and said Villanueva is wholly responsible.
