A former Department of Education official is accused of using consultants for his own gain on the city's dime.

The Special Commissioner of Investigation says former Chief Financial Officer George Raab recruited three consultants to help him plan and set up a department at Guggenheim Securities while they were under contract with the city.

Raab joined Guggenheim immediately after he resigned from the DOE.

The consultants allegedly provided some of the assistance during times when they were billing the city.

Raab also allegedly used his DOE email to discuss the plans with the consultants and a Guggenheim executive.
