Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance announced Thursday that his his office is expanding its Vehicular Crimes Unit, to help curb traffic crimes.
Vance said doing so will enhance the resources and abilities of the district attorney's office to investigate, prosecute and prevent vehicular crimes.
The plan includes working more closely with the New York City Police Department in investigating the crimes and also collaborating with lawmakers to pass legislation, like the adoption of speed cameras.
Vance said the special unit is necessary because 55 people were killed in traffic accidents in Manhattan last year.
