Participants in a Friday march through Midtown Manhattan called for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Besides saying that Israel and Palestine need to live side by side in peace, demonstrators also praised President Barack Obama for his efforts to the Muslim world.
"The best thing for anybody to do when it comes to conflict is to talk about it," said participant Justice Mohammad. "This right here is a peaceful march. As far as choosing sides, all I want is peace on both sides."
"If our president is sending out a message for two states and to promote peace, as Muslims we should meet him halfway," said participant Shireena Drammeh.
"Obama is the first U.S. president who went to the Muslim world and was bold enough to talk peace according to the way Muslims needed to hear him speak," said Sheikh Moussa Drammeh of the Islamic Cultural Center of North America. "And I don't think it offended Jews either because peace in the Middle East is peace for everybody."
The peace march began in Times Square and ended with a traditional prayer in front of the United Nations.
