NY1 is proud to announce that the station collected two awards from the New York Press Club Monday night.
One was given for our spot news coverage on the death of former mayor Ed Koch.
We were the first to report onthe death of the former mayor the death of the former Mayor and we were live for more than six hours.
We devoted our entire day's coverage to Koch's career and his impact on the city.
Our Pat Kiernan was at the anchor desk when the news broke.
"When you're in the moment of breaking news, you're really not thinking of awards or stuff like this, the kind of recognition you'll get down the road. You're really just trying to pull all the elements together. The morning that Ed Koch passed away, we knew in the days leading up to it that it would be a big story when it would happen, but we didn't know when it was going to happen so at that moment the newsroom goes in to high gear," Kiernan said.
NY1 was also chosen for the Reverend Mychal Judge Heart of New York Award.
It recognizes all the hard work that went into the special "Grand Central Terminal at 100".
The half hour program, hosted by our Lewis Dodley, provided an in depth look at the landmark's history.
